Can you believe that my kids have been back in school for 2 weeks already? It seem like just yesterday they were out for the summer. While I love summer, and I love the summer vacation, I do love when they’re back in school. Call it a mom thing. As a parent of three children who are actively in schools, college, high school and junior high school, I can say that I have quite a bit of experience in school related activities. My kids are usually quite anxious to get back in school but none more so than my 11 year old. As most of you know, he’s autistic but he’s a whiz at science. He would sit for hours watching YouTube science videos trying to figure out how things work, and I can’t even begin to tell you how much of his toys have ended up with him opening them up just to see how they work. I have always encouraged his love of learning and I’ve also encouraged his love of science. I’ve purchased quite a lot of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) products throughout the years and he is currently enrolled in science classes, but his love for science truly stems from his early years of experimenting and exploring.
This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of Orkin; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This year Orkin hopes to amplify that eagerness to learn through their Start with Science initiative, which provides materials to classrooms in need, making those experiences possible for your kids and children around the country. Did you know Orkin has donated over $325,000 to fund 1,400+ projects for more than 123,000 U.S. public school students? The Orkin Start with Science campaign will let you fund in-class learning experiences in public and charter schools nationwide via DonorsChoose.org, while showcasing the philanthropic efforts of Orkin. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness for the Orkin Start with Science initiative, which supports science education, and to help teachers across America bring their classroom projects to life!
As a parent I’m all for having other children exceed and STEM learning is very important to me and my family. While most people tend to steer away from such subjects in school, we need more scientists and more mathematicians. I would love for them to find a cure for autism and a cure for cancer, and how else would that be possible if not for science?
Think about future jobs, most will require you to have a basic knowledge of math and science and what better way to be prepared for those jobs than to start implementing STEM classes now. We’re in a world where technology plays a major part in our lives. Without it I don’t know how most of us will survive.
Having your children have hands-on classroom STEM activities will not only foster their love of science but will also help them in the form of learning to problem solve and become the logical thinkers that we want them to be.
Because I believe that every child should have access to a STEM education, I’ve teamed up with ORKIN and even donated to a classroom right here in my community that is advocating for STEM learning in the classroom. I decided to donate to Robotics for 21st Century Learning which would help children understand the basics of coding, engineering and robotics. You too can donate to schools nationwide. Just go to DonorsChose and help out today!
And today one of my readers will win a $250 gift code to contribute to a science or math project that also inspires you through DonorsChoose. Just enter our giveaway below.
