Plan Your Trip During the Summer
While Luxembourg is a magical place to explore at any time of the year, Luxembourg is best enjoyed during the warm summer months. They Speak a Few Languages!
Even though it’s a tiny nation, the people of Luxembourg have a language all their own – Letzeburgesh (Luxembourgish) which is a combination of both French and German, two of the countries they border. In addition to the local dialect, you’ll find most people also speak French and German. German is the language you’ll hear spoken most often, but all of the road signs are in French. You may even hear some other languages – after all, Luxembourg is a diverse country.
While not everyone speaks English, you should be able to find enough English-speakers to navigate your way through the country, make purchases, and order food from cafes and restaurants. Don’t be afraid to pull out Google Translate in a pinch!
You Probably Won’t Need to Rent a Car
If you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring Luxembourg’s cities and don’t mind a little walking, you won’t need to worry about a car rental while you’re there. Luxembourg has an excellent public transportation system, and trains and buses carry travelers between cities on a fairly frequent schedule. Unless you’re itching to explore some of the natural areas that aren’t accessible by train or bus, odds are you’ll be able to fully experience Luxembourg without the stress of dealing with a rental car.

You’ll Want to Bring a Power Converter
Similar to many other European countries, American plugs won’t work in Luxembourg. Instead, you’ll need a converter to ensure you don’t fry your devices – and to let the plugs actually fit into the European-style sockets. While you can always find one in the airport if you forget, they’re usually sold at a premium there. Instead, order one from Amazon or another online shop before you leave for your trip.
Their National Currency is the Euro
Conveniently, Luxembourg has chosen the Euro as its preferred currency – just like all of its neighboring nations. This means you won’t have to stress about exchanging money if you’re visiting Luxembourg as part of a longer European itinerary. If you’re flying directly into Luxembourg, you can exchange currency at the airport, or request Euros from your bank back home before you go.
