Each year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day as everyone comes together to help us protect, restore, and take care of the planet we rely so much on.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “restore our earth”, which focuses on up-and-coming green technologies, natural processes, and ways that we can think innovatively as we work to restore the world’s ecosystem.
Did you know: Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 and was created by Senator Gaylord Nelson to bring the condition of the environment into focus. Later that year, Congress formed a new federal agency called the U.S. Environmental Agency to help tackle environmental issues.
Today, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries across the globe with both in person events and online events that you can attend virtually.
If you have been wondering just how you can celebrate Earth Day, here are a few ideas that you can do both physically and virtually.
Attend an Earth Day Celebration
Many organizations host celebrations and events that offer a variety of different activities that the whole family can enjoy. These celebrations are always educational and there are fun activities that the whole family can participate in as they help our beautiful planet.
Do Some Planting – Plant Something
Plant anything! You will find this activity on just about any Earth Day activity or celebration list because it is something that is beneficial to both us and to the Earth.
We need trees to survive because they give us oxygen and they help clean the air. Flowers make the world a little more beautiful, but they are also very beneficial to the insects that we rely on. Planting a garden will help us be more eco-friendly and will give us fresh food to eat and to cook with.
So, on Earth Day, get outside and plant a seed, some pretty flowers, or a tree! You can either plant them in a pot or in the yard to celebrate Earth Day.
Go Outside and Celebrate Nature
It is a beautiful world out there so get out there and enjoy it! Hang out outside with friends and family as you enjoy a delicious meal and create your own Earth Day celebration.
Let the kids play outside, take the family fishing, go for a hike, head to the beach, or just have some fun doing what you love outdoors. Appreciate everything Mother Earth has given us and what she does for us each and every day.

Gather the family around and learn from some of the best as you enjoy the films and short stories.
Earth Day Initiative: Virtual Earth Day
Starting April 18th, you can check out Earth Day Initiative’s Virtual Earth Day which provides an opportunity for attendees to learn from various environmental organizations and sustainable businesses.
On April 19, you can hop on to the virtual reality experience and take your avatar on an adventure through the exhibitors and pop-up Zoom windows to learn more about them.

From April 20-22, EarthDay.org holds an online event that you can get involved with virtually. There are a variety of different activities that you can view throughout the event. For example, you will be able to see climate activists and innovators from around the world celebrate Earth Day.

Created just for children, the TED-ED Earth School allows children to embark on 30 different online quests and adventures that will help them understand and celebrate the world around them.
