Sur La Table‏ Croquade Waffle Maker – Valentine Day Treat

I have a special and sweet treat for you and when I say treat I really do mean that. We are huge pancakes and waffle eaters in our household. Occasionally we make them from scratch but usually we buy the boxed variety which I have to admit does not taste as good. There’s nothing quite like homemade. Well at least that’s what I thought until we were recently given the chance to review a Croquade Waffle Maker by Sur La Table, complete with the Croquade Classic Vanilla Liege Waffle Dough, Baker’s Dozen. Before I go into my review I’m going to be honest with you. These are in no way cheap. The waffle maker retails for $199.95 and the waffle dough $49.95. Are they worth it? You bet they are!

Upon opening my box I was greeted by the amazing Croquade Waffle Maker with the Belgian waffle and stuffed waffle plate, recipe book and a waffle fork. This waffle maker features interchangeable plates perfect for any occasion. There are other additional plates which you can purchase separately. The plates are made from thick cast-aluminum which is supposed to transmit heat evenly while cooking, and best of all they’re non-stick. They are easy to remove, wipe up easily with a damp cloth and also dishwasher safe.

Now the waffle maker is super easy to use. So easy that even a child can use it but of course with adult supervision. Simply plug in, wait for the light to go off meaning that it is heated up, add your waffle dough, close the cover, adjust your thermostat and simple sit back and wait for your delicious waffle to be done. If you’re going to get any waffle I would suggest getting the Croquade Classic Vanilla Liege Waffle Dough, Baker’s Dozen. They are by far some of the most delicious waffles I have ever eaten, and I’m not just saying that.

These ready made dough balls comes frozen and can be stored in your freezer for up to 3 months. Believe me, they’re not going to last that long. Our lasted close to 2 weeks and that’s a stretch. Why? Because they were so delicious that they were being asked for on an almost daily basis. To cook simply thaw them at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes.

From what I read about these Belgian Leige Waffles as they are called, they are made in Belgium and contains authentic Belgian pearl sugar, which melts and caramelizes during cooking to create pockets of crunchy and sticky sweetness. They were super easy to cook. You just take one of the dough balls in your waffle maker and cook until they are golden brown. You can cook them side by side or you can do them one at a time.

We baked these delicious goodness on a thermostat setting of 5. It goes all the way to 8 with a description that says 1 for the softest/lightest waffles and 8 for crunchiest darkest waffles. We thought that 1 might have been a bit raw and 8 a bit overcooked, so we settled for 5 and we were very happy with the results.

Now you may be thinking that I’m joking when I said that these were the most delicious waffles we’ve had to date from a waffle maker. I’m not! See my picture below? Yes those are tears on my face that mommy refused to wipe away because she wanted the world to see. I was asking mommy for waffles all day long and she was taking forever to get them for me. I never ask for something unless it’s really really good, and these waffles are really really really good. Yes I had to throw an extra really in there.

Waffles aren’t just for breakfast any longer. They can be for any occasion. This Sur La Table Croquade Waffle Maker and Bakers Dozen Dough will make the perfect valentine day gift for your loved one. They will love you even more when you bring them these delicious waffles to them in bed on Valentines Day. Now it’s time for us to order another set of these delicious dough because we’re totally out. Do these get my TWO TINY THUMBS UP? You bet they do!
