Disclaimer: I received a SodaStream Source from the makers of SodaStream. No other compensation was received. Though the product was free, opinions are 100% my very own.
I bet you are wondering, “How is Madison going to review SodaStream?” or “Is Madison old enough to use a SodaStream?”. Well today is all about my siblings today. Yes this is once again a Big Kids review. You may not have seen them around much lately so you may have begun to think that they have stopped existing, but they are still here. I love to pretend that they don’t exist sometimes but unfortunately thinking it doesn’t make it happen. If anyone knows how to makes siblings disappear I’m all ears.
Before they go into their review let me say that I was super excited that SodaStream was sending them one of their new SodaStream Source for them to review. Mommy is one of those health freak mommies. We aren’t allowed any junk food including candy or soda unless it’s a holiday. We always long for easter and Halloween but once the day is over the candy disappears. According to mommy if it’s not all done on that day the candy monster takes it until the next holiday. Apparently he only lives at our house because my brother says that his friends had never heard of this candy monster. It’s the same with sodas. It is only allowed when the grownups are having friends over or when there is a party or another special occasion. I live for those days because I usually get to sample whatever they are having.
Now here is a bit about the SodaStream Source that they received. They are available in a variety of colors show above but we received the black.
SodaStream partners with Yves Béhar, world-renowned designer and social entrepreneur – the result is the new Source, an elegantly-designed soda maker that combines beauty, functionality and efficiency. The elegantly redesigned carbonating bottle easily locks into place with a single-push motion. Powered by a CO2 canister, the refined mechanics of SodaStream Source make the entire top surface responsive to touch, and the strength of carbonation is visible through an LED display, providing instant, visual feedback.
Our SodaStream Source came with quite a few products that would enable us to make quite a LOT of soda. A lot of the flavors were all that we actually loved, including the lemon-lime which although said diet still tasted a lot like Sprite.
I’m sure by now you may have seen the numerous commercials of SodaStream on TV, or you may have even seen them at your local department store. Just like mommy you may have also thought, now how could this be any better than regular soda? Well with the SodaStream soda maker you know exactly what you have in your soda. Mostly water that is carbonated with your added syrup. Consider it carbonated juice.
The SodaStream Source comes complete with the machine, a CO2 canister that allows you to carbonate your drink and 6 sample flavors. It was really simple to set up the Source. Simply remove the back, insert the canister and you’re good to go. The pre-measured flavors when added to the included carbonated bottle gives you great tasting soda. Almost taste like the real thing, you really can’t tell the difference. Our CO2 canister can make up to 60 liters of soda. That is a LOT of soda!
It is so simple to use and we included a video at the end showing Krxssy using it. The included bottle has a fill line that you fill with water. Insert the bottle into the locking mechanism and press backwards and the bottle very easily gets locked in place. Press down on the Source until you get the required carbonation you want. The Source comes with a LED indicator that shows clearly how much carbonation is done.
Once your carbonation is done you can use your syrups which includes a measuring cap. We used the Ocean Spray Cranberry in the photo below and you can see how great it looks. It not only looks great but it tastes great too. Ever since we received our SodaStream Source we have been drinking a lot more soda. A lot more than we ever used to before which was very rarely. Mommy now has no qualms with us asking about getting a drink of soda because she knows what is in there.
If you are a soda lover you will surely love the SodaStream machines. There are lots of available SodaMix Flavors including some of the more popular ones, even a few branded ones as well, including Country Time Pink Lemonade.
Here are just a few and they range in price from $4.99 – $6.99. Very reasonably priced if you ask me.
- Ocean Spray Cranberry Raspberry
- Cherry Cola
- Country Time Lemonade
- Crystal Light Fruit Punch
- Ginger Ale
- Kool Aid Cherry
Now it’s ok to show photos of how this works but the best way is actually to show you in a quick video. My sister Krxssy actually demonstrated how easy it is.
Our overall impression of the SodaStream Source?
The source looks great on the table. Does not take up a lot of counter top space and makes great tasting soda very easily. There is less waste which is great for the environment and having soda just the way you want it, in relation to taste is an added benefit. The end result also includes spending less money on store bought soda. The machine itself is very reasonably priced, and while buying refills can add up, it still works out a lot cheaper than buying liters of soda. Just the convenience of having a way to make sodas in your own home, the healthy way gets our THUMBS UP!
You can purchase your very own SodaStream at major retailers on right on their website.
