smarTrike® Spirit 4-in-1 Touch Steering System #Review

Disclosure: I received a smarTrike for review purposes. No other compensation was received. Though the product was free, opinions are 100% my very own!

I think I know a thing or two when it comes to bikes and trikes. After all I have had the opportunity to review quite a few of them. I’ve also owned a few before I was even reviewing them as well. I’m a bit of a daredevil and when it comes to any outdoor toy I’m all over it. When given the opportunity to review the new 4-in-1 Touch Steering Spirit  by smarTrike, I was excited. This was different from what I normally review. I have done mostly balance bikes and while my balance is getting there, I will be there by this summer I can assure you, I still didn’t know how to pedal. Sure balancing is great and I can cruise for a bit but regular bikes have pedals and I needed to learn how to use them.

Here’s a bit about the smarTrike Spirit 4-in-1 Touch Steering System:

The Smart Trike 3-in-1 Trike grows with your child by easily converting from a safe and comfortable baby tricycle to an independent tricycle. The Smart Trike 3-in-1 Trike features telescopic steering and adjustable removable handle, press out clutch for freewheeling and has a detachable adjustable canopy. The Smart Trike 3-in-1 Trike also features a long back support, a seat belt and a safety bar, non slip pedals, a removable hand rest protector, tipping bucket and a foldable footrest. The Smart Trike 3-in-1 Trike is constructed of full metal and has blow molded plastic wheels with rubber coating for better road performance.

$99.99 – Recommended age: 10-36 months

The box wasn’t too big so if you’re planning on gift wrapping since this makes a great gift then this is the actual size of it. Everything was packaged very nicely on the inside and mommy had daddy take it out and this time mommy was able to take a picture of what was inside. Usually daddy takes it apart and before mommy knows it, my items are set up and I’m ready to ride.

As you can see from the jumbled pieces, there aren’t really too much to set up together and daddy was actually able to set it up in less than 15 minutes. He used an electric drill which really wasn’t necessary but daddy loves his tools. The instructions were merely illustrations and very simply done. We didn’t need all the parts since step 1 included the padded seat with seat belts and a safety bar. Totally perfect for the smaller ones.

If you’re still having trouble getting your smarTrike Spirit set up then there is a very easy assembly video that can help you. Thank you smarTrike for making that very easy video.

Now as I mentioned before this smarTrike Spirit is great for babies 10 months and up. There are actually 4 different combination of uses starting from 10 months. Since I’m almost 24 months old mommy decided to do step 3 which is for 24 months and up. Step 4 which is shown in the photo below is great for when I’m independently riding without help. That I can’t do as yet so we had to go back a step. That includes the parent handle which mommy uses to push me around.

Now it was time for me to take it outdoors and go for a test run. Check out Step 3 which includes the parent handle that mommy will use to push me around. The smarTrike does come with quite a few features that parents would be happy to know are there. They thought about everything when they made this.

Here are some of the features that are included with your new smarTrike Spirit which I will show you below but there are so much more.

Shock absorbing rubber wheels that comes with built in suspension making for an easy smooth ride. There is also a storage basket on the back that can actually hold quite a few things.

The parent grip handle comes with a parent bag that is also detachable. It is perfect for mommies and daddies to put their wallets, cell phones and keys while out and about pushing their little one in the smarTrike Spirit. The steering handle is also adjustable for those shorter or taller parents, or even siblings.

The smarTrike Spirit does have quite a bit of storage. If the parent bag and the storage basket wasn’t enough they even decided to add a cup holder for us as well. Now I can have my drink right in-front of me. It is also pretty big and able to hold either your bottle, sippy cup or a store bought bottle of water. The handle bars are padded and the grips makes it easy for me hold on to.

Now for the little ones who already know how to pedal that is awesome. Pedals are non-slip which is great! For the ones who don’t the smarTrike Spirit has fold out footrest that folds neatly under the bike. You can see it in my very first photo.

Now that isn’t all. The smarTrike also have these other rather cool features:

  • Pull out clutch for free wheeling
  • UV sun protective canopy
  • Washable padded seat cover with shoulder pads
  • Long back support seat
  • Safety Bar
  • Seat Belts

The smarTrike Spirit is made of full metal construction so you know you’re getting a quality product. So I bet you’re asking. Was there anything that Madison or her mommy didn’t like about the smarTrike Spirit? Actually there was. Mommy had a difficult time steering this. This was supposed to be as easy as pushing a stroller but we found that it wasn’t that easy.

Mommy took a video of my brother Kyle pushing me so you can see what we are talking about. Maybe we got a defective model and the others are much better. We like to think the best of our products so we really do hope so.

Besides that slight issue we had of turning the smarTrike Spirit everything was smooth, set up including.  I would suggest watching the set up video as the instructions are merely illustrations if you’re having a  difficult time.

The smarTrike is sold exclusively at ToysRUs and retails for $99.99. They are available in two trendy designs; red & blue and grey & pink. Your child and you would be sure to fall in love with the stylish new smarTrike Spirit!
