Many of us have a passion for interior design, but sometimes, this can come at a cost. We tend to favor decorating and renovating the internal spaces in our homes and forget about the exterior. If you’re preparing to sell your home, or you’ve decided that it’s time to give your home a little TLC, here are some simple steps to take today.
CLEANING AND TIDYING
This might not sound like the most exciting job, but you’ll feel much better once it’s checked off the list. It’s very easy for clutter and debris to gather outside, just like it seems to collect inside our homes. If you have time on your hands, spend an hour or so tidying up patios and driveways, disposing of rubbish and getting rid of any clutter you don’t need or want anymore. If you’ve got old bikes hanging around, for example, you could polish them up and either sell or donate them. Once your outdoor space is free from clutter and leaves, look into pressure washing services. Pressure washing is an excellent way to blitz dirty surfaces and make terraces and driveways sparkle. One more job you can turn your hand to if you’re a DIY enthusiast is building a bin store. This will hide your trash and make your home look more appealing from the street.
PAINTWORK
If your house is painted, or the frames of your windows and doors are made from wood, it’s always a good idea to take some time to freshen up the paintwork every couple of years. The elements can take their toll, and you might find that white takes on a yellow, brown or gray tinge. Adding a coat of bright, new paint can make an amazing difference to the exterior of your home, giving it a fresh, smart aesthetic. If you don’t fancy clambering up ladders, or you’d rather leave the job to the experts, look for reputable companies in your local area or ask neighbors for recommendations.
DECORATIVE TOUCHES
Many of us take a great deal of pleasure in picking out cushions, candleholders, framed prints and lamps for our living rooms and kitchens. While there may not be scope to get quite as creative on the outside, it is possible to enhance the look of your home with some more subtle decorative touches. Place potted plants or planters filled with colorful blooms on patios and porches or use a hanging basket or window boxes to add character and charm. You could also design a bespoke plaque or mailbox with the name of your property and revamp your front door with a lick of paint and a new letterbox and door knocker.
You might feel like there’s not a huge amount you can do to enhance the exterior of your home, but you may be wrong. Even the simplest touches can make all the difference. Cleaning and tidying, freshening up the paintwork on the outside of the house and adding some finishing touches will make your home look incredible.
