Self-Care Ideas That Don’t Cost A Dime

The idea of self-care isn’t anything new, but for some reason, many of us still struggle to take time out of our days to show ourselves a little kindness. We come up with all kinds of excuses. We don’t have enough time. We don’t have the energy. Another common one? We don’t have the money.

Whether you’re saving for a big purchase, trying to pay down debt, or you’re merely trying to stick to a tight budget, the idea of spending unnecessary cash on yourself isn’t one you’re always comfortable with. However, that doesn’t have to be the reason you neglect to show yourself a little love. There are plenty of ways to embrace self-care that don’t cost anything at all. Here are just a handful of ways you can make it happen:

GO ON A WALK.

As long as the weather’s nice, get dressed and head outside for a brisk walk. You’ll benefit from the fresh air and sunshine, and it’ll give you time to clear your mind and focus on yourself instead of your many obligations. Even a quick fifteen-minute stroll can be enough to make a difference in your mood.

TALK TO A FRIEND.

Sometimes, connecting with a friend to catch up, check in, or merely vent can be just what you need. Call, text, FaceTime, or make a plan to meet up at a local park to chat. You’ll be surprised to see how much your mood has shifted by the end of your conversation.

TAKE A BATH.

If you’re the kind of person, who loves to relax in a warm bath, treat yourself to a long soak at the end of the day. Light a couple of candles, throw in your favorite bath scent and let the stresses of the day melt away. Consider bringing a book or tuning into a podcast. One of my favorite bath product is the Neutrogena Rainbath collection, which is a must-have essential for any mom.

After a long busy day, it’s good to just kick back, relax and enjoy some well deserved me time. Not only does it turn your shower or bath into a relaxing pampering experience, but it cleanses and conditions your skin without leaving a heavy, filmy residue behind as well. Neutrogena Rainbath is not only great in the bath but can also be used in the shower as a body wash, or even for shaving your legs. It comes in five refreshing scents: Original, Pear & Green Tea, Pomegranate, Ocean Mist, and Fresh Plum. While they’re all great, Ocean Mist is my absolute favorite. It’s like relaxing on a beach with the oceans surrounding you, listening to the waves.

LISTEN TO YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC.

Music can be a surprisingly effective way to lift your spirits and change your mood for the better. Turn on your favorite song or choose a fun, upbeat playlist and let yourself get lost in the beat. Dancing is optional but encouraged!

GET SOME REST.

If you’re feeling run-down and exhausted, a nap can be just what you need to show yourself some kindness and give yourself a little encouragement and energy. Find a quiet place, close your eyes, and see if you can steal a few minutes of rest. Set the alarm if you’re worried you’ll snooze for too long.

EMBRACE GRATITUDE.

Considering the things you’re grateful for in your life is an easy way to remind yourself how truly rich you are and how much you have to celebrate. From sending a thank-you note to someone who deserves one to writing down a gratitude list, there are a few ways you can acknowledge the things that are going right in your life.

From spending time in nature to connecting with friends and family, there are many ways to practice self-care that don’t cost anything at all to enjoy. Consider the ways you can take a break from the stressors in your life and give yourself a few minutes of relaxation. And don’t forget to pick up Neutrogena Rainbath at your local Walgreens, you’ll be glad you did!
