With the holidays fast approaching and two birthdays to plan for it has been super busy in our household. With so much to do we like to make things easier on ourselves. One thing that the kids love to make and is also easy to do is OREO Cookie Balls. After all it includes OREO’s which we like to think of as America’s favorite cookie. The kids decided that they wanted to do something special and a little bit different so with a trip to our favorite store Walmart, we went to pick up some cookies and other ingredients to make something special. Something we like to call Santa Hat OREO Cookie Balls.
We were amazed at how much different oreos were available in Walmart’s cookie section. There was even a Winter Edition OREO and we picked up quite a few packages, including the Birthday Party OREO which the kids just love.
Once we got our cookies home along with the other ingredients, it was time to make our amazing Santa Hat OREO Cookie Balls. Now you know that I’m going to share the recipe with you. Here you go!
OFFICIAL COOKIE BALL RECIPE
Ingredients:
1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted (we used white chocolate)
Make it!
MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
SHAPE into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
CUSTOMIZE it with your own ingredient additions or decorative skills.
We decided to decorate it with red icing. Using the plastic icing tip make a cap on top of the white oreo cookie ball with the red icing. The size of the tip doesn’t matter for this part.
Repeat with the other OREO cookie balls, giving each a red circle.
Next, add a ring of white icing around the red circle. Repeat with all the cookie balls.
Once all the OREO cookie balls have a red circle and a white ring, use the red icing again to build the Santa Hat. Simply go into a circular motion building it up to make his hat. Place on the baking sheet to set and repeat with all the cookie balls.
Lastly, add a small dollop of white icing on top of the Santa Hat. Cute!
REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.
