It’s the cold and flu season and with that being said I currently have a cold. No fever but it’s no fun having a cold when I could be running around having fun. It seems with the weather changes that I am constantly getting sick. Just a few weeks ago mommy did a piece on caring for your sick toddler and one of the things that we recommended was a digital thermometer. At the time I had an in the ear thermometer from Safety 1st and although it took my temp accurately I hated it. I hate anything going into my ear and mommy usually have to sit on me to get me to take my temperature.
Mommy was on the verge of buying a new thermometer. One that wasn’t as invasive when Safety 1st asked if mommy and I wanted to review one from their new line of Safety 1st Advanced Solution Collection. With an offer like that of course mommy wasn’t going to say no. If she did I would have sat on her instead.
Knowing how much I hate having my temperature taken in ear mommy decided that we would review the new Safety 1st Advanced Solution No Touch Temporal Thermometer. As a medic mommy knows the most accurate way to take a temperature is rectally, but it isn’t easy to do on a toddler who will not sit around long enough for you to stick a thermometer in his/her bum. Rectal thermometers are usually recommended as well until your baby turns 3 months.
Now the In Ear thermometers are also very accurate and very easy to use as well but you do have to insert them the correct way. They aren’t generally recommended for babies under 6 months old because of our narrow ear canals which makes it a little difficult to insert it properly.
I go to the Army Medical Hospital and whenever I go they always use a temporal thermometer on me. They are also recommended for use in infants older than 3 months, that is so much better than the in ear if you ask me. Not only is it quick but it is also non-invasive just the way I like it. The Safety 1st Advanced Solutions No Touch Temporal Thermometer is just the right thermometer for me.
One of the highlights of this is that mommy doesn’t have to wake me up if I’m sick to take my temperature. I can totally sleep through getting my temperature taken. This also not only takes my body temperature but can also take the temperature of my bath and my food.
Another thing that mommy and I like about this is that it uses AAA batteries, 2 to be exact and they were supplied and only needed to be installed. Don’t you just hate those thermometers that uses those button cell batteries that you can never find. The thermometer can easily be changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius for those with a preference. There’s a memory function that stores the last 10 measurements so you have a comparison. It comes with fever alert icons that you can see alerting you that intervention may be needed.
It also came with a handy little guide from the American Academy of Pediatrics letting parents know all about “Fever: Taking a Temperature” and and on the other side, “Fever: When to call the Doctor”. Mommy really loved that they included this guide for parents since a lot of parents aren’t aware of the differences between temperatures. Kudos to Safety 1st for that inclusion.
The instructions for the Safety 1st Advanced Solutions No Touch Temporal Thermometer are very easy to use and well written and clear so you will have no problems using it all. Mommy took my temperature a maximum of three times trying it out and it gave a consistent reading of 98.1°F.
I give the Safety 1st Advanced Solutions No Touch Temporal Thermometer my Two Tiny Thumbs Up for not only giving clear concise instructions but also being easy to use, non invasive and for giving consistent readings.
