Pups of the Spirit – Book Review

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book for review. No other compensation was received. Though the book was free, opinions are 100% my very own.

Mommy is always looking for books to enrich my christian learning experience. While we believe in God we don’t always speak about Him on the blog. We do celebrate the traditional Christian holidays such as Easter, and mommy tries to instill in all of her children values that we should all live by. Those values also known as the fruits of the spirit can be found in Galatians 5: 22-23. For those who don’t know what that text says I will quote it for you:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

When given the chance to review the Pups of the Spirit, mommy was more than happy to do so. While the Bible is great for adults it can be much more difficult to understand for kids. The Pups of the Spirit was written by Jill Gorey and Nancy Haller and illustrated by Deborah Melmom.

The first thing that I noticed was that the book cover is also a poster. Awesome right? Now I can put this on my wall and always remember what I need to learn. There are even questions asking how we can be the kind of person we should be.

Although this book is recommended for ages 4-8 I found that this book is suitable for all ages. This made it very easy to understand by using not only fun illustrations but also used more down to earth language. The pups names were Love, Peace, Joy, Kindness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Patience and Self-Control.

Each value is taught in such a simple way with a rhyme making it so much more fun to learn. For example check out the picture above:

This little puffball, so fluffy and fair,

treats all of God’s creatures with soft, tender care.

Gigi is loving and so very GENTLE;

her warmhearted ways are not accidental.

Now what better way to teach your little ones the values that would make them a better person. The illustrations will really grab them and the rhymes will encourage them to read more. This is the perfect bedtime story book.

I really enjoyed looking at the photos and mommy loved reading it to me. Together we learned that having all these traits would make me the greatest kid ever. This would make a great gift for all your friends with little ones. Pups of the Spirit gets my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!

Have you taught your kids about the fruits of the spirit and do you enjoy reading to your little ones at bedtime?
