Science plays a huge part in our lives, a lot more than we actually realize. From the air we breathe to the grass beneath our feet. Science is everywhere. I love not only looking at the beauty around me but I also love smelling, tasting and touching as well. Although sometimes those senses aren’t always appropriate to use. There aren’t many scientific instruments made for little ones, so you can just imagine my excitement when Educational Insights offered to send me their My First Microscope. Here was an excellent way to get me all excited about science with a real working microscope, that was made just for little ones like me. This summer I was introduced to a magnifying glass which I took around with me almost everywhere I went. You would see me looking through it at everything. I was able to watch an ant up close and see his tiny legs carry him across the yard with food for his family.
Now as I mentioned, this is a real working microscope that magnifies any object placed on the specimen tray 8x their size. It does require 3AAA batteries that are not included, so be sure to have your batteries on hand before gift giving. The extra large eye piece makes it easy for your little ones to look through without having to close one eye.
The Educational Insights My First Microscope features a focusing knob that is sized big enough for little hands. It also includes an LED light with an on/off switch. It is housed in a rubberized casing and is light enough for your little one to pick up and take wherever their little heart desires.
I decided that I wanted to take a closer look at the flower growing in our front yard. I wanted to see what was different when it was magnified. I turned the light on and decided to take a look.
I was able to see the textures of the flower and also see the details in the petals. I would have never paid attention to that before. It was super easy for me to use. I didn’t have to worry about looking into the eyepiece since it was big enough for me. Mommy taught me how to turn the light on so I can see it better which I also did. I can’t wait to look at more objects under the microscope.
This is a great First Microscope for your little ones. They can learn to use a microscope while you instill a life long love of science. While they may not realize it, they are learning while having fun looking through the microscope. You can ask your little ones to tell you the difference between the details of whatever they’re looking at compared to not looking through the microscope. You’ll be amazed at the differences they’ll find. I am loving this My First Microscope by Educational Insights and give them my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!
