The holidays are fast approaching and this year we’ll be spending it at home for the first time in years. Usually around the holidays we’ll take a trip but this year we moved into a new home, and decided that we wanted to spend the holidays at home for once. Holidays for us is spent cleaning, decorating and making delicious foods that every one can enjoy. Living in Colorado we’ve already experienced snow and while it hasn’t stuck to the ground as yet, it’s usually melted by the afternoon, Madison has been dying to make snow angels and snowmen. So what’s a mom to do when you want to indulge your kid but can’t make real snowmen or snow angels? You improvise.
We have been on a crafting binge lately with Madison not in school and me having all the time in world. It feels good to be retired! Luckily for us there are two things she just loves, pudding and OREOs and I knew just where to get them. I knew that I had to go to WALMART because they always have everything that I need and I knew I could depend on them. To be honest I very rarely go anywhere else. On this particular day we went into the store and there were the Super Snack Packs of pudding that she just loves.
There is something to be said for pudding. Not only does it taste good but the only thing you require is a spoon. There is no refrigeration needed and you’ll be amazed at what you can create with a 3yr old in tow. Now I just love buying the Super Packs because as a family of 6, it’s easier to me to get a super pack of 12 than buying them in the small packs of 4. There is a mixture of flavors not limited to butterscotch, vanilla and chocolate. Since Madison wanted to make snowmen, I decided that’s what she was going to do. So I purchased our Snack Packs and a few other ingredients and we headed home.
Now our Marshmallow Snowmen Pudding Cups are super easy to do and Madison did them on her own. If you have little ones, they can do them right along with you. As you can see from our photo she didn’t do a bad job and I’m not sure I could have done better myself.
Here is what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
Snack Pack Puddings (we prefer chocolate)
Marshmallows (we used 2 sizes)
OREOs (we used double stuffed)
Candy Eyes (optional)
Pretzel Sticks
Edible Markers (since Madison is too young to use decorator gel but you can use that instead)
Directions:
1. Put a pretzel stick into the bottom of one of your marshmallow
2. Add the second marshmallow onto the pretzel stick and combine them together. That makes sure they are on top of each other and do not fall apart.
3. Add the snowman arms using your pretzels. You can shorten them if you prefer. Madison liked them long because according to her “I want to eat them”.
4. Now it’s time to draw your snowman’s face. Since Madison is only 3 we decided to use edible markers which you can also find at Walmart in the cake decorating section. Our pack only had 4 colors, red, blue, yellow and green so we decided to make his mouth red and his eyes and nose blue. You use it just like you would any marker and just draw his face on. If you would like to have a more professional look, you can use decorating gel.
5. This is where it gets even more delicious so you may want to watch your little one. Separate your OREO cookie. Madison licked about 5 of them before I got her to do what I wanted. Place the stuffed part of your OREO in your pudding cup. This will act as his base.
6. This is your final step. Get your snowman and place him on top of the OREO that is in your pudding cup. Place the other half of the cookie on his hat to make his hat and you’re done. As Madison would say “Voila”.
This is truly too easy to make and if my 3yr old can make it then I know that you can too. Don’t forget to pick up your Super Snack Pack Puddings and truly ring in the holidays. Start a holiday tradition and do a snack pack mix-in for each holiday. The only thing stopping you is your imagination.
Let’s discuss: What other cute holiday mix-in can you think of making with your own little ones?
