M is for Monster July Subscription Box – Review & Giveaway

Disclaimer: I received products  for review purposes. No other compensation was received. Though the product was free, opinions are 100% my very own.

I am going to be totally honest with you. Mommy is horrible when it comes to doing anything crafty. Sure she can do the easy stuff but it usually includes checking out Pinterest and the internet for ideas. When contacted by M is for Monster to take a look at their boxes I was really hoping that mommy would say yes for me, and guess what? She did. Mommy knows when she needs help and is not afraid to take it. Now you’re probably wondering what kind of help this was. Well M is for Monster is a monthly subscription box service which retails for $39.95 and includes everything moms and kids need for each project – glue, pencils, paint, crayons, etc. There are 2 different subscriptions – Toddler (ages 2-3) and Preschool (ages 4-5). You all know which one I got. You guessed right! The toddler box.

Toddler boxes are good for ages 2-3 and focuses on uppercase letters, numbers 1-10 and basic shapes. Other skills will be introduced from time to time, but this is a basic layout.

Preschool boxes are good for ages 4-5 and focuses on lowercase, numbers 1-20 and basic shapes. More complex activities for children with longer attention spans are introduced here. Again, other skills will be introduced from time to time as this is only a basic layout.

When I opened my box I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was an extended learning sheet with recommendations for extra learning. That was truly appreciated. On the other side was our July weekly activities. Guess I forgot to mention that each box comes with 4 weeks of activities for your little one and yourself to do.

For the month of July my weekly activities were:

Week 1: Flags

Week 2: Beach

Week 3: Dentist

Week 4: Watermelon

Mommy and I decided to start working on our Flags for week 1. Your little one is going to need help with these projects unless they’re like me and like being independent. I don’t like getting helped until it’s too late and I’m thoroughly frustrated.

M is for Monster really did make these age appropriate because I only needed a little bit of help, not too much at all.

The concept of week 1 involved cognitive and math skills. As you can see below I started drawing on the sheet of paper which had the number 7 on it. By placing 7 of the world flags on there I would have been able to count up to 7.

I also had the option of drawing my favorite shapes which is hard to do for a 2 year old so I just did my usual scribbles and that was just ok.

The summer passport could be used in numerous ways. Such as whenever I went somewhere this summer, I could place a sticker in remembrance of that place. While that would have been nice, I had a lot more fun just placing stickers anywhere.

Mommy and I think that M is for Monster is a great subscription box for the following reasons:

It saves time – each month you get a new delivery straight to your door (no more running out to the store for supplies) and each month is different with four weekly themes and 2-3 projects per week.

It saves money – the activity kits are much more affordable than buying supplies for 12 different activities every month.

It makes learning fun – each kit comes with 12 activities and the activities are designed to teach kids things like numbers and letters, in addition to entertaining them.

Now while I didn’t get to show you what we did week by week in this review, I do plan on highlighting them in separate reviews. This is a great subscription service. Not only will you have fun with your little one doing these projects together, but they’ll be learning at the same time without even realizing it. M is for Monster gets my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!
