The holidays are very quickly approaching. Christmas will be here in less than a week. My Christmas menu is planned and the kitchen will be filled with smells of marvelous food very shortly. I love to involve my kids in the planning and preparing of the family meal. After all, they are part of the family so I always include them. They all have their part to play in the Christmas celebration.
Whether it’s helping to set the table or handing ingredients, there’s a part for everyone. So when they’ve done their part they also get a little treat and that’s where Juicy Juice comes in. We were recently sent samples of the new Juicy Juice Splashers which you can find at your local supermarket, but I was also able to find them at my Walmart.
Juicy Juice Splashers is a refreshing 50/50 blend of filtered water and fruit juice in a pouch, which has 50% less sugar than the leading juice. They are available in four delicious flavors, Berry Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Peach Mango, and Tropical Twist. While I have always been a fan of their 100% juices which you will always find in my pantry, these new Splashers have now made a home here as well. The kids just loved them.
Today, however, I want to share with you a recipe that you can make just for the kids. After all, kids need festive drinks too!
Here is what you’ll need:
(Juicy Juice Apple Cider adapted from Juicy Juice)
Ingredients:
1 64oz bottle of Apple Juicy Juice® 100% juice
3 cinnamon sticks (plus additional for garnish)
2 whole oranges, peel included
10 cloves
Directions:
Wash oranges in cold water and chop into fourths
Combine cinnamon sticks, oranges, cloves and Apple Juicy Juice® 100% juice in a saucepan
Simmer over low heat for ten minutes, never letting the mixture boil
Remove oranges and allow the cider to cool a bit
Serve in a mug with a cinnamon stick for garnish
Pour the remaining cider into a pitcher and store it in the refrigerator for later
Juicy Juice is a great way to reward kids but here are a few fun ways you can include the kids for the holidays. Give little ones the opportunity to help set their own table, with kid-friendly decorating and menu ideas like these:
Make a kids-only menu item: A fun way to get kids involved and excited about the holiday season is to have them make a dish just for them. Try a low-stress, minimal ingredient recipe like Baked Apples (from Juicy Juice). End result: a seasonal and healthy dessert or side just for kids.
Endless Entertainment: For a rustic look (and a way to keep kids entertained during dinner) use brown craft paper in lieu of a tablecloth and set out some crayons and pencils for drawing and tic-tac-toe.
Serve festive drinks for the kids, too: Let the little ones sip on a glass of Apple Cider (made with Juicy Juice), or set up a DIY drink station so they can make something special for themselves. Help kids combine half juice such as Juicy Juice with no added sugar, half sparkling water, and add an easy fruit garnish or a festive straw. For younger kids, you can put a colorful selection of Juicy Juice boxes in an open cooler or bucket of ice so they can serve themselves.
Get the kids involved and make them feel extra special on Christmas!
