How to Survive Summer Break with Kids – #SesameStreetonHBO

This is part of a sponsored collaboration with HBO and DiMe Media. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

It is easy to get overwhelmed with the idea of having to entertain your kids this summer break, after all they have needs that are to be met and you’re the parent in charge of meeting those needs. Many parents around the globe are starting to worry about having to survive summer break with kids, but you see it really isn’t a bad thing at all. You can survive summer break with kids if only you follow a few of the tips we are sharing with you today.

Maintain a Routine – kids thrive on routine, they have just left the strict school routine to a more lax summer break routine. Try to develop and maintain a routine that you determine based on kid’s needs, schedule constraints and necessary components of lunch, snack, and dinner time.

Ask Your Kids
– when planning activities or daily to-do’s ask your kids what they want to do during summer break. Try to incorporate some of the wants of your kids into their summer break schedule so that they feel more confident about their needs being met. This will alleviate unnecessary arguing with you when you take time for yourself.

Regulate Electronic Time
– kids can get tunnel vision when sat in front of electronics for too long a period of time. Make sure you regulate electronic time to ensure your kids are maintaining a balanced routine every day during summer break. Allow electronic time to be earned, perhaps by completing a specific set of chores on a daily basis.

Send Kids to Relatives
– if you have the use of friends or relatives make sure to include at least one day a week where you send your kids off with that special person. Allowing your kids to have one day per week with another person gives you some rest and rejuvenation time. Taking that day to yourself will help you stay sane during summer break.

Get Books from Public Library
– each week have your kids go into the public library to select a few books for them to read. Have a designated time each day for the kids to read silently in their favorite location at home. Allowing for silent reading time during summer break gives you another moment of silence to recoup and allows them to keep up their reading skills.

The overall gist to surviving summer break with kids is to maintain a proper balance between time they spend with you and outside of the home. When inside, however, you can have them watch their favorite Sesame Street characters all summer long on Saturday mornings at 9:00 am ET/8:00 am CT on HBO. This current season along with past seasons will also air daily on HBO Family at 8:00 am while you will be able to stream the last five seasons on HBO Now, HBO Go and HBO On Demand. You’ll also get to see the usual line-up of celeb guest stars including: Gwen Stefani, Ne-Yo, Pharrell Williams, Gina Rodriguez, and Lupita Nyong’o.

I grew up with these same characters and so did my kids, so this is going to be our summer tradition, watching Sesame Street on HBO all summer long. Join us!
