Planning a trip to Costa Rica can be a ton of fun, but it can also be a little stressful. After all, like visiting any new country, there are lots to learn before you go – and lots to plan! And while I can do as much research as possible and try to set myself up for a successful trip, sometimes, it’s best to leave it to the experts. Madison and I were guests of Costa Rica Family Holidays, experts in all things Costa Rica, but all opinions are ours alone.
For this trip, I wanted to visit the rainforest, but I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. Were we going to have to rent a car to get there, or was public transportation an option? Where should we stay? Are there some places in the rainforest that are better than others to visit? I had more questions than answers… but then the good folks of Costa Rica Family Holidays booked us at the Taiprus Lodge.
If you’ve been dreaming of a Costa Rican rainforest adventure but aren’t sure where to start, consider booking a spot at the Tapirus Lodge. Located inside Braulio Carrillo National Park, you’ll find yourself immersed in the beauty of the rainforest wherever you turn. Not only does the Tapirus Lodge offer excellent accommodations in a beautiful setting, but you can also take advantage of a number of different tours to safely explore different facets of the rainforest, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
You can explore the beauty of the rainforest on a Natural Exploration tourwhere you’ll see orchids, hummingbirds, native amphibians, and more – all explained by a knowledgeable guide. Alternately, you can opt for a more intense trip through the rainforest on the aptly-named Rainforest Hike tour. This excursion will take you on a 5-kilometer hike through the forest, stopping for a picnic lunch and a quick swim that’ll make this one of the most memorable experiences of your Costa Rican vacation.
Prefer something a little more thrilling? Try the Tapirus Lodge’s Canopy Tour, a zipline adventure that’ll send you soaring among the treetops, or sign up for the Aerial Tram tour. This tour gives you the chance to ride in Costa Rica’s only aerial cable car. Unlike the fast-paced zipline, a slow and easy ride in a cable car will give you the chance to actually appreciate the beauty of the canopy – which is where many of the rainforest’s creatures reside.
And whether or not you like birdwatching, most visitors will have a blast on the Bird Watching tour. Accompanied by a guide and equipped with a list of birds, you’ll get to glimpse some of Costa Rica’s 450+ native bird species in their natural environments.
Even the rooms are designed to give guests the ultimate rainforest experience. Most offer massive glass windows and skylights, filling the space with bright light and beautiful views of nature. Upgrade to a deluxe room, and you’ll even get your own balcony – a space where you can step outside and soak up the fact that you’re staying in one of the most beautiful and unique ecosystems in the world.
I had a blast at the Tapirus Lodge. It was the perfect way for us to experience the Costa Rican rainforest without stressing about the details, and I encourage anyone who wants a relaxing rainforest vacation to check them out!
