Who would have thought that the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet would have brought Madison and I closer together? Read on to find out how.
Having a daughter in your 30’s can make you see the world in an entirely different light. Before Madison was born, I thought that my childbearing years were over. My oldest was 16, while my youngest son at the time was 8. Then along came Madison.
What would we have in common? After all, she was born in a generation where technology ran rampant. Kids are given tablets by the time they can utter their first word, and cellphones in Kindergarten. I used to be that mom that said: “my child is going to be different than that”. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that all technology is bad; it’s the usage that is.
So when Amazon decided to introduce their Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet, I was a bit skeptical at first, but then I read all about it and became on board. A tablet that allowed me to set time limits, with age-appropriate books, videos, games, and apps? A tablet that also came with a kid-proof case that could withstand almost anything a kid can throw at it, and one that came with a no-questions-asked 2-year warranty? Yes, please!!
So how were we able to bridge our age difference and get closer? Here’s how!
We Read Together
Madison just started learning to read in Kindergarten, and she’s an avid book reader. She truly enjoys books. With the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet, I’m able to download books that are her grade level and we sit down and read together. I no longer have to go to the library to rent books or purchase tons of books at my local bookstore, thus saving me money. At bedtime, I’m able to read to her from a variety of books all available on her tablet with FreeTime Unlimited (which I’ll talk more about later). A few of our favorites being Eric Carle’s and the Pete the Cat series.
We hold discussions
Just recently Madison was reading a book (or maybe I should say, was having a book read to her) about ladybugs. Who knew that Ladybugs ate Aphids? I sure didn’t. She questioned me asking if I knew and I had to admit that I didn’t. We then started talking about all that she learned about ladybugs and what they did. I want my daughter to be able to talk to me about any and everything, and these discussions that we have is our starting point to bigger things.
We dance together
I love saying: “The family that dances together, stays together”. Alexa is available and can be enabled on the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet under the parent profile, and being a prime member sure does have its advantages. Finding our favorite songs are easy, and with our songs playing in the background, we’re able to rock out together, just Madison, and me and sometimes even her dad and siblings join in. What normally ensues is a belly full of laughter, because none of us can dance, but it’s all about the memories that we create. Simply hold the home button and have Alexa play your favorite kid song.
We play together
The Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet allows us to play together. With unlimited games via FreeTime Unlimited, a subscription service that’s free for the first year with your purchase, it not only allows me to download games, but books, and even videos. Madison enjoys playing on her tablet and even gets me to join in on the fun. Her favorite app: Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Play at Home with Daniel, teaches kids about topics such as bedtime and going to the doctor. I’m able to help her relate to everyday life activities and she’s able to show me how to actually play her favorite games, helping me in the meantime to form a stronger bond.
Not only do I see her personality shine through based on the apps that she discovers and downloads, but I’m getting to know my little girl a lot better. I know that she loves interactive apps about animals, and cooking. See Madison not only would love to be a chef one day when she grows up, but she also wants to be a veterinarian as well, and she has my support no matter what profession she chooses.
Speaking of becoming a chef, did you know that you could pull up recipes to create in the kitchen together with the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablet?
