Seems like I just celebrated Mother’s day just a few short weeks ago and now here comes Father’s Day. Today is a bittersweet day for mommy. She lost her dad that she was very close to just a few short months ago. The picture below is a picture of the last time we both saw him alive. He died of that dreaded disease that we all love to hate called cancer. Mommy very rarely posts pictures of herself so this is a treat for me.

Mommy talks about all the fun times she had with her father growing up. Granddad and Grandma had been together for more than 50 years before he passed away. He was the first person to teach her how to drive a manual transmission vehicle. He was the first to teach her how to swim although she still never learned and he was always there with an ever ready ear to listen and support her. When mommy decided to join the US Army, granddad was her rock of support. She was daddy’s little girl.
Thank you to all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers and even the moms taking the role of father in their child’s life today.
My own dad is very special to me. He’s always there for me as well (especially when I get into trouble) and I know that he’ll always be there for me no matter what. That’s what being a real father is.
Mommy recently said a quote that I love. “Anyone can be a father but it takes a real man to be a dad.”
Today I salute all the “dads” of the world!
