Green Tones Eco-Friendly Wooden Musical Instruments – Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I love music! When I say I love music there is no ifs, ands or buts about it. No matter what kind of music it is I love it. I love the melodies and even though I may not be able to sing along perfectly, I love trying to sing along as well to songs. Mommy has been encouraging my love of music since I was very young. You may even remember a post I did a very long time ago that read “Your Toddler and Music“. It lists some of the benefits that music can bring to your little one. It’s not only a great way to express your creativity but also it helps with brain development as well. When given the opportunity to review for Green Tones, mommy and I were super excited. This was a company that not only have musical instruments great for all ages but it was also an eco-friendly company as well. I received the Melody Glockenspiel and I want to share my experience using it with you.

Now before I go into my review I want to share a little bit about Green Tones:

Green Tones is owned by the legendary music company, Hohner.  Since 1857, Hohner has been manufacturing quality musical instruments.  Combining Hohner’s heritage of providing authentic musical experiences with environmentally friendly materials, we strive to provide a safe and engaging platform for music play.

Green Tones are age appropriate wooden musical instruments which feature unique designs produced from sustainable chemical free rubber woods with non-toxic glue. low VOC water based paint, and recycled packaging. Including award winning animal shakers, car/boat/train whistles, beginner drums, tuned glockenspiels, and much more for ages 6 months to 4 years old.

The Melody Glockenspiel measures 12 inches long and is the perfect size to fit on either a table or your little ones’ lap. It’s made of sustainable mango wood with a smooth, non-toxic clear coat finish over vegetable dyes that is chip resistant and very safe. It is very kid friendly and adult friendly as well I can tell you. Especially since mommy has also played it right along with me.

It comes with 2 mallets that you use to play the eight precision tuned bars that are arranged in a C pentatonic scale to provide a pleasing sound no matter how the notes are played. It’s one of the thing that I love about this. It is extremely melodious and not irritating to the ears at all. I have quite a few toys that I play that after a while mommy tries to take it away from me because it gets annoying. Not this one.

Mommy have even played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Mary Had a Little Lamb on here for me. It is really true to sound.

The Green Tones Melody Glockenspiel enhances both physical and cognitive skills. The little chart above shows all the skills that it helps develop. My sensory processing, gross and fine motor skills and my sense of rhythm are all enhanced physically. My imagination and creativity, curiosity and discovery and self expression and confidence are all developed cognitively.

I want to show a closer look at the Melody Glockenspiel. Now while you may think that this is just a musical instrument, mommy and I like to think of this as another learning tool. Each bar is colored a different color and so I’m also learning my colors while I play my music. With the alphabet on each bar as well, I can also begin to learn a few letters. How is that for a toy? Great right! Multifunctional and beautiful. The bars can be taken off and if you’re adventurous like me, you can put them in whatever arrangement you feel like putting them.

I really enjoyed playing with my Melody Glock and it’s one of those toys that is so melodious that the parents don’t mind me playing it at all. I can play for hours on end and I have yet to hear mommy say “ok enough, let’s play something else”.

When it comes to toys eco-friendly products are highly encouraged in my household so Green Tones is definitely one that will be seen again. I especially love their motto “Green Tones – Good for your Child – Good for the Planet”. All their products are safety tested and meets CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission) safety requirements. They are also a 1% For the Planet member, where 1% of the sale of their products goes to non-profit organizations dedicated to protecting the environment. How is that for amazing! Green Tones gets my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!
