Spring break is often a much-needed opportunity to rest and recharge from the craziness that follows the holiday season. While there’s nothing wrong with a good staycation, it’s important to take advantage of opportunities to travel when you can, and for many of us, this week-long break can be our only real chance to get away until summer arrives.
There are dozens of great destinations to visit for spring break, but some rise above the rest as optimal places to kick back and have fun with family for a few days. If you aren’t sure where to go, consider planning a trip to one of these top spring break destinations:
NEW YORK CITY, NY.
If you didn’t make it to New York City over the holiday season, it could be a great place to spend Spring Break. While the Big Apple doesn’t necessarily lend itself to a relaxing vacation, you certainly won’t run out of things to do, and there’s legitimately something for everyone here. There are more museums to explore, restaurants to sample, and performances to watch here than someone could experience in a year – much less a week-long stay – so do a little research before you go to make sure you tackle all of your top to-do’s!
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO.
If you aren’t quite ready to hang up your winter coats for the season, a ski vacation might be just what your family needs for spring break, and Steamboat Springs is an excellent choice. This kid-friendly resort is perfect for families with little ones in tow, as they offer great discounts and tons of activities and areas geared toward younger visitors. And if you need to warm up? Head down the road to Old Town Hot Springs for a soak and a swim in their heated pools.
THE OUTER BANKS, NC.
The barrier islands that line the coast of North Carolina are well worth a visit, and they’re an excellent spot to spend spring break. Less popular than beaches like Panama City, you won’t struggle to find a somewhat secluded beach to spend the day with your family, so you’ll be able to build sand castles, look for seashells, and catch up on your latest read while the kids play in peace. And once you’re ready to get off of the beach, you’ll find plenty of other things to see and do, like touring the Wright Brothers National Memorial or visiting one of the area’s lighthouses.
THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
This one might be a bit of a splurge, but you really can’t go wrong spending spring break in Hawaii. Offering plenty of adventure and excitement alongside lots of options for rest and relaxation, the whole family is sure to get what they need from the experience. Whether you spend your time hiking through lush national parks, lounging on the beach, trying your hand at surf school or scuba diving with your waterproof camera in tow, you’ll be hard-pressed to have a bad time when you’re on one of the Hawaiian islands.
From quiet beaches to big cities, there are endless options for spring break destinations to consider – now, take your pick and plan the perfect spring break getaway!
