Madison mommy here. Today I wanted to do something a bit different. If you are new to reading my blog you may not know this, but my regular readers do. We are an active duty military family. What that means is that we’re always on the move from one duty station to another. All these moves have moved us away from family and friends. That means that wherever we go we always have to make new friends. While that hasn’t been too difficult for the kids, I’m not too social. I’m more of an introvert and like being by myself if possible. While hubby is outgoing and is always on the move with friends, I would much prefer to stay indoors curled up with a good book. Today I want to share with you a very special person that I met when I first moved to our current state. She is my next door neighbor and has been such a help. Today I share and give a little extra love to her.
I am not going to show her face, but that picture is of my next door neighbor and my daughter. She has been so nice to me since we moved here. We are currently the only African American family in the neighborhood and she is such a blessing. When we first moved I was pregnant so my toddler daughter has grown up with her. She has babysat for us on numerous occasions, invited us to her gatherings and of course we have invited her to ours. Although I’m sure she would rather not listen to the music the kids listen to these days.
When you’re far away from family, sometimes your neighbors become your family, and she has been family to us. By the time you read this we would be in the air. We are flying to the Caribbean and before I left I wanted to do something special for her. That’s why I decided to put together a nice little gift basket. After all it’s the thought behind the gift that counts. The boys will be staying and will be giving her the basket the day before Christmas. After all I don’t want them bothering her on Christmas day.
I decided to get her a nice candle complete with candle plate. A picture frame which she can use to put a picture that she holds dear to her in. A nice mug for a nice hot cup of tea or coffee, whichever she preferred. The kids picked out a cute little snowman snowglobe for Christmas and of course we decided to get her a few packs of Extra gum. Now she can chew along while she takes her little Pomeranian for her morning walks.
You too can give a little Extra this holiday season. Do you have a special person that you would love to give a Little Extra too? Tell us all about it!
