Rad Games for Remote Friends

Rad Games for Remote Friends Video Games

A lot of us are suddenly having to deal with the fact that we’re no longer able to hang out with our friends, to go to cafes, or to play sports. As such, that feeling of connection can start to suffer and we can start to feel more alone than ever. Now is the time to look online for the games that we can play remotely, instead. Here are a few options to float with your friend group and see what they’re up for.

VIDEO GAMES

Not all of your friends may traditionally be into videogames, but now is the perfect time to try them. Online games like Rainbow Six Siege can be a great way to get everyone involved in a cooperative goal. Fighting games like Street Fighter V can take a different approach, lighting the fire of competition under everyone with online tournaments. You can use tools like Discord to make sure that everyone is in touch, no matter what games you’re playing, too.

QUIZZES

Video games are far from your only option, however. If your friends and family like a bit of a brain teaser, then quizzes can be an excellent way to pit everyone head-to-head to test their knowledge. Aside from the tons of sites that have trivia questions, there are others like Word Unscrambler that let you get creative with puzzle rounds. There are sites that can help you host quizzes so you don’t have to wait for people to shout out questions, too.

ONLINE BOARD GAMES

Love a game of Monopoly, Scrabble, or even something a little more complicated like Settlers of Catan? Nowadays, it’s becoming much easier to play them online, not only due to online versions of many of the most popular games, but also thanks to the video game, Tabletop Simulator, that can be played with multiple friends. There’s an option to flip over the table and knock all the pieces flying.

ROLEPLAYING GAMES

If you don’t mind letting your imagination rule, then there’s nothing quite like a classic game of Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire: The Masquerade, or Shadowrunner. So long as you have friends willing to play and someone to be the game master, websites like Roll20 make it really easy to play tabletop roleplaying games online. You never know, you might end up having a long-running recurring game going with your friends by the end of it all.

SOCIAL DEDUCTION GAMES

You might consider these video games, roleplaying games, or online boardgames, but social deduction games offer a very different experience from the “norm” in any of these. Games like Epicmafia tend to involve people hiding secrets, such as which players are innocent villagers, and which are hidden mob members, and everyone deducing those identities. A great genre of game if you all love a good mystery.

Switch up the games you and your friends play and how you play them. You want to make it a regular thing while we’re all on lockdown, so be sure to use some variety.
