Make the most of this autumn season and create lasting memories with fun activities that everyone in your family can enjoy. Here are some ideas for things you can do!
Days are growing cooler, nights are getting longer, and the leaves are finally starting to change their colors. That can only mean one thing: fall has arrived! For many, it’s a long-awaited break from the heat of the summer and the last chance to spend time outside before the cold, long winter sets in.
Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to get out and find something fun to do as a family for the fall! From annual festivals and seasonal festivities to activities that only make sense during the autumn months, there’s a good chance you have more options than you think in your area!
If you’re looking for some ways to make this fall more memorable for your family, I’ve got you covered. Here are a few of my favorite family-friendly fall activities. Here are some fun activities you can enjoy as a family this autumn:
VISIT A LOCAL PUMPKIN PATCH
Like pumpkins, pumpkin patches come in all shapes and sizes. Some are farm stands set up in parking lots and public spaces, while others are legitimate farms where you can pick your own pumpkin fresh from the vine. Try to find a pumpkin patch on a farm; many have other activities you can enjoy while you’re there, like a petting zoo, hayride, or corn maze.
HOLD A FAMILY JACK-O-LANTERN CARVING CONTEST
Once you’ve all picked out the perfect pumpkin from the pumpkin patch (or your local grocer), challenge your family to see who can carve out the most interesting design. You can download and print stencils and templates for free online, purchase kits from your local craft store, or just freehand it and see what you can come up with on your own! To determine a winner, post pictures of your pumpkins on social media and ask your followers and friends to vote for their favorite!
GO ON A HIKE
On a mission to get outside and enjoy as much fresh air as possible before the winter season sends you indoors? I don’t blame you. A fall hike can be a great way for the whole family to get some exercise, admire the fall leaves, and have some fun together. You can use an app like AllTrails to see what hikes exist in your area. If you aren’t a regular hiker, you might be surprised to see how many options exist in your area! Another tip? Bring a camera in case you find the perfect spot for an impromptu family photoshoot.
BAKE SOME AUTUMN PIES
When most people think of sweet treats for the fall, Halloween candy comes to mind. But there are tons of great fall recipes that are fun to make as a family, like pies! Stick with the classics, like apple, pecan, or pumpkin, or branch out and try something new, like this Autumn Surprise Pie.
Don’t love pie? That’s fine! There are plenty of other baked fall treats your family can tackle in the kitchen, like apple cider donuts, pumpkin bread, and apple fritters!
Add one—or all—of these ideas to your family’s fall bucket list, and you’ll be guaranteed to make some fun memories together.
