Our delicious french bread breakfast boat, complete with ham, eggs, cheese and veggies, doesn’t take a long time to make, is delicious and will help you start your day off right.
I’m not going to beat a broken horse, but you know that I consider breakfast to be the most important meal of the day. I have mentioned the benefits of breakfast numerous times, but my main one is that it helps jumpstart my metabolism. After being asleep for hours, I need that extra boost of energy that breakfast tends to bring. However, far too often we tend to skip breakfast, either because we’re too busy, running low on time and just can’t do it. However, Smithfield has answered the call with simple and convenient, yet hearty and wholesome, products.
Before my kids head out the door, I always make sure that they’ve eaten breakfast. Studies have shown that kids who eat breakfast achieve higher scores on standardized math tests and attend more days of school per year. I can totally see it, as if you’re hungry, there is no way that you can concentrate in class, so making sure that my children have a nutritious meal before school is very important to me. Smithfield is partnering with No Kid Hungry, an organization committed to providing innovative solutions to combat childhood hunger, to donate one million meals* to children in communities across America.
One such meal that I make for my family is my french bread breakfast boat using Smithfield’s Anytime Favorite Cubed Ham. Smithfield Anytime Favorites makes any meal not only easy to prepare, but also delicious. Available in over 20 different cuts and flavors, they are ready to use in any of your favorite breakfast recipes.
French Bread Ham Breakfast Boat
Ingredients:
1 large french bread
6 large eggs
½ cup heavy cream or whole milk
½ package Smithfield Anytime Favorites Cubed Ham
½ cup shredded cheese
chopped veggies (for this I used onions, green peppers and tomatoes)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, ham, cheese, and veggies.
3. Cut a long rectangle through the top of the french bread, being careful not to cut all the way through. Remove the strip from the center, creating a well through the length of the french bread.
4. Spoon the mixture into the french bread and transfer to a baking sheet.
5. Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven.
6. Cut and serve while still warm.
7. Eat and enjoy!
