It’s time for our fragrance of the month, and today I want to share with you one of my favorites, Eau Duelle eau de parfum by Diptyque.
Earlier last year, I got into niche fragrances, and I promise to share my top 5, or maybe more, niche fragrances for women with you. However, today’s post is all about Eau Delle eau de parfum by the fragrance house Diptyque.
First, a little background on the Diptyque fragrance house. Diptyque is a French perfume house founded in 1961 by three friends who enjoy traveling; however, they didn’t launch their first fragrance until 1968. When they first started, they began by offering home furnishings, and in 1963, they added scented candles. Candles are still one of their main offerings, and you may have seen them in high-end department stores. Many Diptyque fragrances were inspired by their travels.
When I read the description of Eau Duelle eau de parfum, I knew that I had to add it to my collection. There is also the Eau Duelle eau de toilette, which is just a tad bit less expensive, but personally, I prefer eau de parfums as the sillage lasts a bit longer, and the extra dollars is almost always worth it. You do get a little bit more of the “juice” in the eau de toilette, a generous 3.4oz, compared to the 2.8oz you get in the eau de parfum, and the notes seem very similar, but I’m an eau de parfum kinda gal.
An ode to travel and vanilla. Along the spice route, the vanilla at the heart of Eau Duelle takes on new aromas: luminous, addictive accents of calamus and dark, smoky nuances of cypriol. Travelling through time and over borders, Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar reveals itself between darkness and light.
First, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of this scent. I’m a big fan of vanilla-scented fragrances, and as the years have gone by and I’ve gotten older, I’m into more mature fragrances than the girly ones that I loved when I was younger. This is not the sugary vanilla that I’m used to. Most vanillas can be classified as gourmands, but this isn’t quite the sweet gourmand that you come to expect of vanilla fragrances. Eau Duelle’s ingredients consist of bourbon vanilla and pink peppercorn, but you don’t really notice the vanilla until the dry-down, which is absolutely gorgeous.
The smoky/spicy vanilla may take a bit of getting used to, but it develops into such a calming scent that you can just feel the warmth enveloping you. This scent is subtle and sweet but not overly sweet, so if you’re not into too-sweet scents and you’re looking for something a bit darker, then this is the scent for you.
The sillage on the Eau Duelle eau de parfum is very long-lasting, and you can expect over 6 hours of longevity with this on your skin. The projection is amazing; however, expect it to last at least 2–3 days on your clothing. This scent is warm and cozy, perfect for the winter months. I consider this a great winter scent. It’s the perfect way to stay home and cuddle in front of the fireplace while the snow drifts down.
If you’re considering getting this, I recommend not blind buying because of the vanilla if you’re not used to spicy vanillas, but instead sampling it before purchase. If you end up loving it, then you’re good to go; if not, you can send back the sealed bottle free of charge.
