Mark your calendars! This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 12 (which coincidentally also happens to be my birthday) – and it’s one day you don’t want to forget about. While it’s always a good idea to make sure your mother knows how much you love her, on Mother’s Day, a little extra effort goes a long way in showing her how much she means to you. From traditional brunches to more creative ideas, there are plenty of ways you can get together and share some time together for the day.
In need of a little inspiration for your Mother’s Day plans? Here are a few easy ways to treat your mom on Mother’s Day:
SURPRISE HER WITH A MEAL!
You can’t go wrong with a Mother’s Day brunch – or lunch, or dinner! Book reservations at her favorite restaurant or surprise her by treating her to someplace new. Either way, you’ll want to call ahead and claim your spot in advance, and even then, you should be prepared for crowds. Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days for restaurants all year long, so expect a few more folks to be out and about than usual.
For a more personal (and budget-friendly) approach, cook for her instead! Invite her to your place and whip up a home-cooked meal. Show her how you’ve mastered some old family recipes, or introduce her to some you’ve found on your own. Either way, she’ll be impressed – and appreciative – by your gesture.
DO SOMETHING FUN TOGETHER.
If you’d rather not deal with the crowds you’ll face at most restaurants on Mother’s Day, you can always treat her to a fun activity together instead! Think about the things she likes and see if you can find a way to incorporate them to truly make the day personal.
Is she crafty? Consider a paint-and-sip class or spending an hour or two at a pottery painting studio. Does she enjoy a glass or two of wine in the evening? See if you can book a tour or a tasting at a local vineyard. From improv comedy classes to cooking lessons and everything in between, you can find tons of ways to get out and have fun together with a little effort.
MAKE HER A GIFT BASKET (or box)
If your mom appreciates material things – or lives too far away to celebrate together – you can still celebrate the day in a personal day! Instead of ordering flowers or a fruit bouquet, send her a personalized gift basket, filled with a carefully-selected assortment of things you know she’ll love. Spend an hour or two browsing your favorite shops for items to add, or order your items online to fill your box. Then, add a thoughtful card, and you’re good to go!
CAPTURE MEMORIES WITH A MOTHER-DAUGHTER PHOTO SHOOT.
Outside of a wedding, when was the last time you and your mother took decent pictures together? If it’s been a while, consider surprising her on Mother’s Day with a quick makeover and photography session with a professional. You’ll have a blast posing for the camera together, and you can look back on those memories for years to come.
As you can see, it doesn’t take a lot to make Mother’s Day meaningful for your mom. Try showing her how much she means to you this year with one – or more – of these gestures, and she’ll know she’s appreciated.
