Cleaning the bathroom is not the kind of house chore that you want to do. After all, who loves to scrub toilets and get rid of mildew stains?
But the more you avoid cleaning and getting rid of those stains, the worse the entire situation becomes. Plus, cleaning your bathroom is an inexpensive way to give it a new look.
So, how do you ensure that your bathroom is in tip-top shape? In this post, we’ll walk you through some tips on how to keep your bathroom clean.
1. Use Vinegar for Shower Head
Fortunately, you don’t need to buy expensive cleaners to clean your showerhead. Instead, you can soak it in a mixture of baking soda, vinegar, and water.
Pour enough white vinegar into the plastic grocery bag. Make sure that it’s enough to submerge the head nozzle fully. You can even tie it in place for overnight soaking. Remove it in the morning, and rinse it with water.
You might also notice mineral deposits that block showerheads. Fortunately, you don’t have to replace it with a new one. You can use vinegar to unclog your showerhead instead.
Let it soak in white vinegar overnight. For that extra cleaning action, you can try heating the vinegar in the microwave first.
2. Use Sandpaper for Stains
Do you find it challenging to get rid of stains on a solid-surface synthetic tub or sink? Use ultra-fine sandpaper instead.
After getting rid of the stain on the bathroom surface, you can then buff the area using a clean cloth, and you’re all set.
3. Remove Mildew from Shower Curtains
The bathroom is a moist environment, making it an ideal place for mildew to propagate. So, don’t be surprised if these show up in your shower curtains.
If you want to learn how to clean up mold and mildew, soak the linens and curtains with saltwater before you hang them.
After any molds/mildew shows up:
- Place ½ cup borax along with ½ cup vinegar in two cups of water. Then, pour on the affected, letting it stay there for at least eight to ten minutes. Scrub it with a cloth and sponge afterward.
- Mix two tablespoons of washing liquid with a pint of household bleach. Afterward, spray the solution on the curtain.
- Create a paste using salt and vinegar, spreading them on the mildewed parts. Let it dry for at least one to two hours, and clean it off afterward using a damp cloth.
4. Get Rid of Toilet Stains with Borax and White Vinegar
Vinegar always comes to the rescue when it comes to cleaning the most challenging surfaces in your bathroom. That’s because vinegar’s acidity is excellent in getting rid of stains.
What you can do is add three cups of vinegar to the toilet bowl, then scrub unwanted marks using a toilet brush. Similarly, Borax powder also works wonders on stains. However, you should ensure that you turn off the water supply in your tank first.
Put the powder on the stains, and leave it for about 30 minutes with the residual borax. Then, turn on the water supply back and flush the toilet. It should look as good as new.
5. Try Baby Oil
Do you want your chrome sink to shine? Try putting on some baby oil in a soft cloth, and your faucet, along with other chrome and stainless steel surfaces, will look shiny in no time.
If you don’t have baby oil around, another great way to keep your bathroom surface shiny is to mix vinegar with an even ration.
Then, use a cloth, brush, or toothbrush to restore the shine. Just remember not to dilute the vinegar too much. Otherwise, it won’t work.
6. Clean Grout with Baking Soda and Bleach
The grout in between your bathroom tiles is a magnet for germs and dirt. However, it’s easy to miss out on these crevices when doing your regular bathroom cleaning.
It also doesn’t look great. That’s why every so often:
- Create a paste of one part borax, two parts baking soda, one to two parts water, and try scrubbing the grout using a toothbrush.
- Scrub using a mouthwash that has a teeth-whitening agent.
- Place a cotton ball soaked in household bleach on a stained worktop grout for several hours.
- Get rid of the grime using a new pencil eraser, as it’s ideal for reaching narrow spaces.
7. Get Rid of Rust Stains
If you want to remove hard-water stains from tubs, sinks, and commodes, all you need is an old toothbrush. Squeeze some toothpaste into it and start scrubbing it away.
You can also scrub the stain using lemon juice and borax. The sooner that you deal with these rust stains, the easier they are to remove.
If you want to spruce your bathroom on a shoestring budget, consider following the tips listed above. That’s because a clean and sparkling bathroom is pleasing to use and look at.
