How would you like to wash your hands with unicorn poop? Unicorn poop soap, that is! Read on to find out how to make these magical soaps that will make your family and friends laugh out loud when washing their hands.
When you have a child who’s obsessed with unicorns, like mine is, it becomes your reality. I remember dropping Madison off at school one day, and the conversation went something like this. “Mom, do you know that unicorns are real?”. In my defense, I should have kept my mouth shut and let her live in her childhood fantasy. She still believes in Santa and the Tooth Fairy, although to be fair, I’m beginning to think that she only believes in them because they’re the only ones who “bring her stuff.” So I said, “No, they’re not,” to which she adamantly responded, “Don’t you dare say that!”.
I can’t go into a store and not walk out with something unicorn if she’s around. She’s even into the books, with her latest being Unicorn Day by Diana Murray. She also convinced me to make her unicorn shoes, so how could I say no to unicorn poop?
I love making soap and experimenting with molds, and I had the poop emoji mold as I originally planned to make cupcakes. For my soaps, though, I generally use a goats milk soap base, which I love because of its richness. For our unicorn poop soap, I decided on using just a clear glycerin soap base, adding some vitamin E oil known for helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and it’s anti-aging properties. After all, I don’t think unicorns age. I had a difficult time deciding on the scent of my unicorn poop soap until told that unicorn poop probably smells like cotton candy. So cotton candy it was!
So how do you make unicorn poop soap?
Here’s what you’ll need:

- 20 drops Cotton Candy Essential Oil
- Pink, Yellow, Blue, and Purple Mica Powder
- 1tbsp Vitamin E Oil
SUPPLIES:
- Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1: Begin by cutting your soap base into 1″ cubes. If you use the cubed ones as I used above, you will have about 16 cubes. For this, I didn’t use different bowls but instead used one bowl for all my colors. I simply rinsed it out once I was done with a color, and started another, giving the color in the mold time to cool before pouring the next one.
STEP 2: Melt 2 of your soap cubes in the microwave at 30-second intervals until the soap is melted completely. Your soap base will be hot so let it cool slightly before adding your color, 2 drops of Vitamin E oil (or carrier oil of your choice), and about 5 drops (you could also use more) of your cotton candy fragrance, and a pinch of glitter.
STEP 3: Pour your melted soap base into your mold and spray with the alcohol to remove the bubbles. Begin again from step 2, layering your colors until you get to your final color. For the 2nd layer, use 4 cubes and 5 cubes each for layers 3 and 4. If you’re not using the cubed glycerin soap, you may have to guestimate how much you want in each layer.
For my layers, I started with yellow, purple, pink, then blue.
STEP 4: When you get to your final layer, and you’ve poured it, add a sprinkle of additional glitter to give it that extra pizzazz, because glitter makes everything better.
STEP 5: Let it harden in the mold for about an hour before removing it. If you can’t wait an hour, you can pop it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to set faster.
Remove from mold and wash your hands as you would any soap, but be prepared to see a bit of glitter.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited Madison was to get these. They’re now a staple in her bathroom, and what an easy and exciting way to get the kids to wash their hands more than ever, especially during the pandemic. It’s also a conversation starter.
