Today I want to share with you how to make your own exfoliating lavender soap. It’s effortless to make and exfoliates your body in the shower, leaving you feeling refreshed and clean.

DIY Exfoliating Lavender Soap

With us being on lockdown for the past few weeks, it’s brought back my creative side. I’m no longer traveling, and I have all this pent-up energy that just needs an outlet. In the past, I’ve made my own soap, including this foaming hand soap, and this amazing lemon-poppy soap, and as they say, necessity is the mother of invention.

One of the places that I purchase my soap from is LUSH, I just love their soaps, including their bath bombs, but I’ve always been a bit skeptical about how “natural” their natural products genuinely are. Now that I’m no longer able to get into the store, I decided, why not make my own soap? After all, I know exactly what I’m putting in there, and I can make it just the way I want it.

Over the past week, I’ve made honey-oatmeal exfoliating soap bars that not only smell divine with a few drops of essential oil but work amazingly well too, but for those suffering from skin conditions such as eczema, omitting the fragrance and the color works best. However, I wanted something a bit more soothing for the days when I just want to relax in the tub, and when you think soothing, you automatically think lavender. I also wanted it to be exfoliating as well. So, with a few simple alterations to my honey-oatmeal recipe, I decided to make my lavender bars. I not only added lavender fragrance but also added real lavender buds for true exfoliation, along with sweet almond and coconut oil for added moisture.

For my soap, I decided to use all-natural goat’s milk to keep it as natural as I can to avoid irritation as I have very sensitive skin. I also layered it into two different colors to give it an added oomph. What I’m left with is a creamy, fragrant, and very luxurious soap that can be given as gifts or kept for yourselves.

Here’s what you need:

INGREDIENTS:

2lbs Goats Milk Soap Base

¼ Cup Lavender Buds

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Soap Coloring

Sweet Almond Oil

Coconut Oil

SUPPLIES:

Loaf Soap Mold

Knife for Cutting

Glass bowl

Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle

DIRECTIONS:

Start by cutting your soap base into 1″ cubes and place half of the soap base in your microwavable glass bowl. (You’re going to use one half as the bottom layer, and the other half as the top layer. If you’d prefer to have just one color, then you can melt the entire thing altogether.)

Melt your cubes in 30-second increments until the soap is completely melted.

Your soap base will be hot once completely melted, so let cool slightly, then add 15 drops of lavender essential oil, 20 drops of sweet almond oil, 20 drops of coconut oil, and colorant to the soap liquid.

Pour your melted soap into your soap mold and let cool for about an hour. (For faster cooling you can place in the refrigerator, but it’s highly discouraged to do so.)

Once your first layer is cooled, it’s now time to do the second layer.

Place the second half of your soap base in the refrigerator and once again melt in 30-second increments.

Once melted and slightly cooled, add another 15 drops of essential oil, 20 drops of sweet almond oil, 20 drops of coconut oil, and your lavender buds to this mixture.

Pour the lavender buds soap mixture on the previous layer of your soap mold. You can also sprinkle a few more lavender buds on the top for added oomph.

Spray with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles.

Let cool and harden for another hour before gently removing from the mold.

Now it’s time to cut your soap with either a crinkle or smooth soap cutter and wrap with paper, cloth scraps, jute or twine, or whatever you decide you want to present it with.

I’m really pleased with the way the soap turned out. The lavender fragrance and the dual-tone color really complements each other, and the extra lavender on the top really looks fantastic. The only thing that I would have done differently since it was the first time using this mold, was maybe use a bit more of the soap so that I could have been able to have bigger bars. But these small bars are perfect for handwashing and would make great gifts.
