Calming Lavender Bath Soak

For the past week, I’ve been in my kitchen, not just cooking but creating homemade soaps, candles, and soaks. As a matter of fact, I’m currently thinking of creating a lavender series for my blog.

You see, I love the smell of lavender and how calm and relaxed it makes me feel. I’ve been using my exfoliating lavender soap consistently and decided it was time for a soak. The pandemic and being on quarantine have left me stressed because, although I might seem as though I have it together, I really don’t. This distance-learning thing is just not for me. There was a reason I never home-schooled; I just don’t have the patience for it. I now have a high schooler and an elementary school student I’m responsible for teaching. While I can help Madison with her 2nd-grade work, the high schooler has me pulling my hair out. I JUST CAN’T DO IT!

Self-care while on social isolation is very important, and for me, that means relaxing at the end of the day in the tub, soaking all my cares away with a good book. So while my lavender soap is excellent for the shower, I knew I needed a soak for the tub.

For my soak, I incorporated not just Epsom salt, but also pink Himalayan sea salt as well. Pink Himalayan salt is known for its detoxifying properties, and it is said that it can draw out toxins from your body. What you’re left with is a body that is calm and refreshed, combined with the soothing scent of the lavender essential oil.

Here is what you’ll need:

SUPPLIES

3 cups Epsom Salt

2 cups Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (fine or coarse, but I used fine)

1 cup baking soda

20 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Soap Color

3-4 Tbsp. Lavender Buds

4 – 8oz Mason Jars

Whisk

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, combine Epsom Salt, Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, and Baking Soda.

Add in your lavender essential oil and stir or whisk to distribute evenly. While I used 20 drops, you can use less or more, depending on your preference.

Divide your bath salts in half and place in two separate bowls.

Color one half of your bath salts with 6 drops of lavender soap coloring.

Now add your lavender buds to both the clear (pink) and the lavender salts sections.

Layer bath salts in jars. I used about two tablespoons per layer and pressed the salts down before adding a new layer. I also added a few sprinkles of lavender buds at the top of each.

Store the salts in a dry, cool place.

Once you’re ready to use, add a large handful to hot bathwater. Enjoy!

If you’re worried about the lavender buds clogging your drain, you can place a scoop of your bath salts into muslin bags and drop it in the tub before each use. The salts would melt, leaving the buds in the bag and keeping your drain clog-free.
