It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look in the Five and Ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door
Most of the adults would know this song but us little ones just love that holiday. Once Thanksgiving is over, Christmas is the most highly anticipated holiday, one that every child looks forward to. I just recently went to the mall and I could already see the signs of Christmas. There was a very long line to sit on that fat white guy’s lap, the one I take a picture with every year. Today for my Toddler Book Talk Tuesday my book focuses on what happens before Christmas. The signs that us little ones look out for that tells us that Christmas is coming. Today my book is: And Then Comes Christmas written by Tom Brenner and Illustrated by Jana Christy.
And then comes Christmas is a hardcover book that is perfect for families to read together from I would say October when the leaves start falling from the trees, right up until Christmas day. It talks about what to expect from the weather changing, to those packages arriving that mommies and daddies hide so that you won’t get to see them. I love how he alternates each page with WHEN… followed on the next page by THEN letting us know that things are about to change. The story shares what families do when getting ready for Christmas and involves the children on each page. I just love how it all builds up to the grand day.
The water color illustrations are beautiful and will appeal to both children and adults. The text vividly describes the sounds, the sights and smell of the season, from the red berries blazing against green shrubs to the icicles clinging to roofs. We just loved all the sensory detailing.
So how do we little one’s know that it’s almost Christmas? Well here’s an excerpt from the book:
WHEN elves and reindeer appear in stores,
and when trains race through toy villages,
and piles of presents nestle in cotton drifts…
THEN hop from foot to foot,
waiting to sit on Santa’s Knee.
I loved that this book focuses more on family and them coming together during the holidays, sharing in the joy of the holiday together and not having the main focus on Santa and gifts.
If you are looking for a book for your family that you can read year after year then this is the book for you. Let And Then Comes Christmas become your new Christmas book that your family reads every holiday. It will inspire you to go out and join in some of the festivities that are going on as well. You won’t want to be left out. This is the perfect book for families and I highly recommend it. It definitely gets my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!
