Being a father is not easy. Dads have to make many sacrifices for their children, and that includes putting everyone else first. There’s no better feeling in life than knowing your father is willing to give up the things he loves to make a better life for you.
And while we’re eternally grateful for everything they do for us, sometimes we need to make a little effort to remind them just how much they’re loved. Here are 7 inexpensive ways to make dad feel loved on Father’s Day and every day of the year, for that matter!
1. Send Him Some Digitized Memories
Sift through your family albums and pick the best photos of the most precious moments you had with your dad. Compile all your favorite memories, (including old family videos) and place them in a DVD or pen drive and give it to dad. It’s a thoughtful way to remind dad of all the wonderful moments you’ve shared and the many more there are to come.
2. Send Him a Father’s Day Card
Luxury gifts are great and all, but sometimes all dads really want is to be remembered and acknowledged on their special day. So, what better way to do that than with a unique and special card from Hallmark or a funny e-card from Etsy like this one, or this one, or even this hilarious one. They’re not that expensive and they’ll put an instant smile on dad’s face.
3. Have a BBQ
Does dad love firing up the grill in the spring and summer? Then why not join him and cook a nice barbecue on his special day. It doesn’t matter whether you grill hot dogs, burgers, vegetables, or some ribs smothered in barbecue sauce. What matters is the time you’ll spend talking and bonding while you cook together.
4. Help Dad Complete a Chore
Is there a chore that your dad doesn’t like such as mowing the lawn or cleaning the gutters? Why not do it for him? Better yet, is there a special project he has been working on that he could use your help with like working on the car, building a fence or painting the house? Ask him if you could spend a few hours helping him complete these projects.
5. Hang Out and Play Video Games
Sometimes, dad just wants to feel like a kid again, and one cool way to achieve this is by playing video games together. Is there a game you guys used to play together when you were younger? Well then, it’s time to dust off that old Nintendo system and start playing together a new game. Oh, and don’t forget to make some snacks or order a pizza.
6. Netflix Party with Dad
Did you know that the Netflix Party app lets two people watch a movie together? Can you think of a better way to spend Father’s Day with your dad? Best of all, Netflix Party is not just for movies. You can binge on your favorite TV shows as well, even if you’re both in different cities or states, which makes this the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day virtually.
7. Take Him on an Adventure
Traveling isn’t easy these days, but it’s not impossible either. There are lots of national parks that are open. You just have to do a little research to see which ones are available, and take extra safety precautions like stocking the car with extra masks and alcohol wipes so that you and your dad can enjoy a nice hike through nature’s neighborhood without worrying about any consequences afterward. If you want to play it extra safe, consider renting an RV and embarking on a road trip just the two of you.
