When you have a child who loves and enjoys everything unicorn, you try and indulge them. Learn how you can recreate these magical unicorn shoes using your Cricut Joy and EasyPress Mini.

I have to say that these unicorn shoes are a total delight. Madison has been asking for a pair of unicorn shoes for as long as I can remember. I originally purchased a pair that she’s now outgrown, and she’s been dying for another. With my Cricut Joy and the EasyPress Mini, I decided why not make her a pair. After all, the EasyPress Mini is just the tool that you need to make smaller items such as shoes, hats, etc., and with its comfortable handle grip and pointed tip, its the perfect tool for smaller projects.
While I could have done this using my Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2, I decided that the Cricut Joy is perfect for these kinds of jobs. Nothing too excessive where I would need a large mat or sheet of vinyl. Their Smart Iron-Ons are perfect! You may remember my personalized outdoor mat that I also made with their Smart Iron-Ons. For this project, we decided on using the Translucent Blue Holographic Iron-On but noticed that in photos and the sun, it actually looks like gold, but still cute nonetheless.
So how is it done? Let’s get into the details!
SUPPLIES:
Black Canvas Tennis Shoes
Cricut Joy Smart Iron-On Holographic – Translucent Blue
Heat Resistant Tape (optional)
Socks for filling shoes
DIRECTIONS:
STEP 1: Open up Cricut Design Space and find a one-dimensional unicorn that you can use. Nothing with bits and pieces like my design here. I simply duplicated the unicorns until I thought I had enough. I decided to place about 20 per shoe, all about 1″ in length.
STEP 2: Get your Cricut Joy and cut out the unicorns. Be sure to place your vinyl with the shiny side down. The Cricut Joy makes it easy as you don’t need a mat, and the Joy Smart Iron-On is the perfect size for these sorts of projects.
STEP 3: Once your Cricut Joy is done with cutting your unicorns, weed the excess vinyl and cut it into individual unicorn pieces.
STEP 4: To prep your shoes for its magical transformation, remove all lint with your lint roller. Stuff your shoes with the rolled-up socks as this will allow you to put pressure while attaching the unicorns on the shoes with your EasyPress Mini.
STEP 5: Place the individual unicorns onto your shoes in your desired layout. You can also use heat resistant tape to keep them in place if they don’t want to stick onto the canvas.
STEP 6: It’s now time for the magic! Turn on your EasyPress Mini and set the temperature to medium. Press each unicorn for about 20 seconds. Since the EasyPress Mini uses the same technology as the larger EasyPresses, you can be sure that you’ll get the same results as you would when doing bigger projects.
STEP 7: After pressing all of your unicorns, it’s time to peel the plastic backing from the vinyl and reveal your magical unicorn shoes. They were super easy to make, too!
These shoes are truly magical, and for all unicorn lovers. You can get creative and change up the vinyl, as Cricut has quite a selection of vinyl to choose from. I am also loving the Cricut Joy and EasyPress Mini, and have a few other projects that I can’t wait to get done. The “Mini but Mighty” is very appropriate for the EasyPress Mini, and it just made a little girl unicorn dreams come true!
