We’re just returning from Brooklyn, New York, a place that I still call home, even though I’ve been in Colorado for the past 5 years. While I now currently live in Colorado, Brooklyn will always be home to me. It’s where I had 3 of my 4 children, where they went to school, where I met my husband and got married. Most of my family and some of my closest friends still live there, and I just love going back to visit them. They say home is where the heart is, and my heart is in Brooklyn. When tourists think of Brooklyn, they think of brownstones and projects, graffiti and gangs, but Brooklyn is so much more than that. As I shared before, they’re also home to the best donuts in the US, according to Foursquare. I haven’t done an Almost Wordless Wednesday post in quite some time, but today I want to share the beauty that is, Brooklyn. I’ve turned comments off for this post so you can enjoy the photos and a little slice of Brooklyn, New York.
Now while most people think of Brownstones, they think that they must certainly be brown, but you couldn’t be further from the truth. Brownstones come in array of colors and that’s what make them all unique. While some are personal homes, some have been turned into apartments. There are some beautiful buildings in and around Brooklyn as well, and here’s one thing to note if you’re traveling from out of town, you better know how to parallel park!
It’s not all houses but there’s water too. Lots of water. A few of the homes that you see above were renovated after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 because they were destroyed.
And when you’re tired of walking along the beach of Coney Island, you can pay the Luna Park (formerly Coney Island Amusement Park) a visit. I remember taking my kids to the Coney Island Amusement Park every summer where we would ride the Cyclone, one of America’s oldest wooden roller coaster. The Cyclone has been opened since 1927, way older than most of our parents.
If you just want to have a lazy day, then a trip to Canarsie Pier might be just what you want. There you can relax on the benches or even enjoy some fishing.
Brooklyn has so much to offer, you just have to get out there!
