As mothers, wives, sisters, aunts etc., we tend to focus more on others than we do ourselves. However, self-love or is also important. We need to take time out for ourselves to focus on what makes us feel (not just look) better. It could be as simple as sleeping more, relaxing or even enjoying a good book. These easy ways that you can invest in yourself, take very little to no time at all, and you’ll feel amazing at the end of it all.
1. Work out
Exercising or working out doesn’t have to include the gym. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need a gym membership to work out. A simple jog or brisk walk around the neighborhood would do. Be sure that you’re wearing the correct gear and having a great pair of headphones while you walk will even be handy. I am a big girl so I need gear that offers me support, but is also moisture-wicking, quick-drying and doesn’t chafe when I walk around. The Champion Absolute Sports Bra give me all that and so much more.
My headphones of choice are the AfterShokz Trekz Air Headphones. Not only are they lightweight, but they are open ear with bud-free listening components. Personally, I hate headphones that I have to stick into my ear because I can never find the perfect fit. Since these are bud-free I no longer have to worry about that problem. I’m also a huge fan of open ear headphones, simply because I prefer the more natural sound. These AfterShokz are amazing and pretty comfortable too.

2. Read an uplifting book
Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine, and reading motivational uplifting books can change many a life. I’m currently reading Fran Hausers:- The Myth of a Nice Girl – Achieving a Career You Love Without Becoming a Person You Hate. It’s all about female empowerment and realizing that you don’t have to sacrifice who you are to become who you want to be and get ahead.
3. Protect your eyes
Speaking of reading, when was the last time you had your vision checked? You should have your vision checked at least once a year, this way you’ll be able to know if you need a new prescription lens, or if there are any eye abnormalities. As someone who is consistently on the computer, I wear the Zenni – UV Blue Blockers. Not only does it have a clear lens that blocks HEV blue light, but it provides maximum UV protection with minimal color distortion. Blue light is damaging to your eyes so having a lens that protects your vision is key.
And if you’re in need of a prescription, Zenni might be just what you need as they’re the leading online retailer for prescription eyewear. I know that prescription eyewear will be in my immediate future, and they have very stylish and affordable eyewear that will help me express my individuality.
4. Eat/drink healthier
Be careful of what you put in your body because it’s the only body you have. This year one of my goals was to eat and drink healthier. I’ve cut out most sugary foods and have started drinking more water. My focus is not on weight loss, but generally being healthier. Included in my diet are more organic products, and I try and have an organic smoothie at least once a day. In my smoothie, I incorporate Pure Synergy‘s Organic Beet Juice Powder which not only tastes great but is a daily health booster as well.
I’ve also been using the Organic Turmeric Extract after I work out. Tumeric is known for their powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties so after a vigorous workout I know that it will soothe my aching muscles. My husband especially loves it and the taste isn’t so bad either.

5. Simply relax
Do you know the saying “Less is more”? Sometimes you just have to take the time to enjoy that cup of coffee or smell the roses. Take some time out of your day to simply relax. Put your feet up, mediate or even soak in the tub with a relaxing candle from the Chesapeake Bay Candle company. Designed and poured right here in the USA, these soy wax blend candles infused with natural essential oils deliver a clean burn, so all you smell is the glorious fragrance with no smokey smell. Their balance + harmony is one of my favorites with it’s aromatic fragrant of tropical fruits and pears combined. It doesn’t overpower and even my husband, the candle snob, loves it.
Now that I’ve shared how I invest in myself, something that we should all be doing, my hope is that you will go out and do the same.
