In this list, you’ll find something for everyone, from fashion items to ethically produced skincare, makeup, culturally-rich jewelry, pet accessories, and so much more!
1. NaClO Apparel
Looking for some cozy loungewear that’s perfect for staying indoors? Then check out NaClO Apparel. This company was created by Jamie Williams & Charles (Chuck) Royals after the first stay-at-home order was issued in the U.S. After spending some time indoors, they realized the world needed “live in” cozy apparel that’s comfortable, vibrant, and functional.
2. Klur
Klur’s founder Lesley Thornton envisioned a skincare brand that reflected the values of “clean, ethical, and inclusive beauty.” During development, Thornton documented different ingredients’ reactions on a broad range of ethnicities and came up with an eco-friendly skincare line that is simple and conscious. Klur is a self-funded and women-operated company that prioritizes minimalistic skincare regimens with results that last a lifetime.
3. Blk Mkt Vintage
Blk Mkt Vintage is a Brooklyn, New York-based vintage shop specializing in representing the Black community through collectible items such as clothing items, art, décor, literature, cultural artifacts, furniture pieces, magazines, and paintings. Their motto? “Not only do we see you, but we love you as well. You’re worthy. What you’ve created is worthy. You are important here.”
4. FENTY
Rihanna’s fashion house FENTY allows shoppers to explore their sense of identity and push boundaries through their inclusive and unique apparel and accessories collections. FENTY is all about culture, defiance, freedom to be who you are, and “inclusivity in all forms.” Oh! And it’s also worth noting that Rihanna was the first Black woman to have her own label at LVMH.
5. A A K S
Looking for unique bags, ethical values, and incredible attention to craftsmanship? Then check out A A K S. The company’s founder, Akosua Afriyie-Kumi, implements weaving techniques from Ghana in all of her exclusive raffia bags. Plus, the materials she uses all come from the country itself, which helps support the local economy.
6. Pyer Moss
Kerby Jean-Raymond founded Pyer Moss in the hopes of building a brand that reflects the Black heritage and promotes support and activism for the Black community. You’ll find Nylon bomber jackets, cropped hoodies, sweatshirts, and joggers that come in exotic patterns and styles that make heads turn. Overall, Pyer Moss’s collections involve social commentary, debate, activism, and storytelling, which challenge social narratives.
7. Jam + Rico
Jam + Rico is a jewelry line full of handcrafted pieces that are inspired by Caribbean culture. Owner Lisette Scott has immigrant grandparents from Jamaica and Puerto Rico. She grew up fascinated by her heritage, which is why she designed a jewelry line that connected her with her ancestors. In fact, the company’s name stands for Jamaica and Puerto Rico, with the plus sign symbolizing both cultures’ richness.
8. Trill Paws
The Los Angeles-based brand was founded by Rachel Jones, who lives and breathes pop culture and dogs. You’ll find pet tags, collars, and bowls for pets, as well as accessories for their humans like stickers, decals, and sweatshirts. At Trill Paws, they know that “dogs aren’t just pets; they’re family, and they deserve the best.”
9. Uoma Beauty
Find your shade, no matter how light, caramel, or dark you might be, at Uoma Beauty, a brand founded by Nigerian-born Sharon Chuter that provides products for people of all colors. Uoma stands for inclusiveness. In fact, they believe that beauty begins the moment you choose to be yourself.
10. Fulton Street Books and Coffee
According to their website, Fulton Street Books and Coffee “is a space to build community and change our city through civic discourse.” They also make it their mission statement to increase literacy through literature “one book and latte at a time.” Fulton Street Books and Coffee was designed to give people of color a safe place where they will always feel welcomed and inspired.
11. Anya Lust
Anya Lust was launched in 2015 with the intention of providing people a safe space to shop for enticingly luxurious lingerie pieces that make everyone feel beautiful. You’ll find sensual lingerie, feminine robes, and nightwear, and even Valentine’s Day pieces to treat yourself.
12. Local European
Looking for womenswear that’s stylishly “minimal with a touch of edginess”? Then check out Local European, a Los Angeles-based womenswear brand established by Alexandra Bunch in 2019. You’ll find all sorts of modern garments with timeless silhouettes that are perfect for every occasion.
13. Octave Jewelry
Octave Jewelry believes in adding Earth elements to their jewelry line; hence their sterling silver, gold, and hand-cut stone earrings and rings are as unique as they are timeless. The brand’s founder, Ope Omojola, believes that “each piece sparkles and sways with the wearer, highlighting the beauty within.”
14. CBAAF
CBAAF is a Los Angeles-based, Black-owned clothing brand that features hand-dyed and ethically produced clothes made with 100% recycled cotton. They’ve been featured on Vogue, Milk, and Complex.
15. Hanahana Beauty
Providing eco-friendly skincare products designed to make women of color feel comfortable in their skin is Hanahana Beauty’s top priority. Their products also support the Katariga Women’s Shea Cooperative in Ghana by using a combination of the region’s shea butter and other organic ingredients like natural oils. Their mission? “From the fair sourcing of our shea butter to the creation of our homemade products, down to the responsible representation of people working with us at every end.”
