How I’m Owning My Personal Health In 2019 ~ #NurxHomeHPV

Your health and wellbeing should be one of your top priorities – I know it’s one of mine. From eating right and getting enough exercise to scheduling regular check-ups to keep a pulse on existing issues and make sure no others emerge, I’m a firm believer in taking the time out of your busy days to take care of yourself. After all, you only get one body, and it’s up to you to take care of it.

On my journey to take a little more ownership of my personal health in 2019, I recently discovered Nurx.  This company got its start providing contraception options for women across the country, and they’ve recently expanded their service to include a Home HPV Screening Test, which lets you screen your risk for cervical cancer without scheduling an appointment with your  OBGYN. It’s the perfect solution for women who struggle to find time to visit the doctor for preventative care, as it’s quick and convenient, and coming in at $69 for those without insurance and $15 for those with coverage, it’s an affordable way to manage your risk.

Since January is Cervical Health Awareness Month, there’s no better time to yourself on the importance of cervical cancer screenings and learn how you can make better decisions about your health. If you’re a woman over 30, the official recommendation is that you test yourself for HPV every five years OR screen your risk for cervical cancer every three years. Instead of getting a pap smear, studies have shown HPV tests have proven to be equally effective in determining your risk for cervical cancer, making the Nurx HPV Home Screening Test an acceptable alternative to an in-person pap. And while these tests can’t possibly replace the knowledge and expertise of your doctor or actually diagnose cervical cancer, they’re a great tool to help you understand your risk from the convenience of your own home, on your own time.

The Nurx Home HPV Screening Test is super simple and straightforward to use. You can request your kit directly through their website or through the user-friendly Nurx app. Once it arrives, you’ll find everything you need to conduct your home HPV screening: an extra-long q-tip, a plastic tube, a plastic bag, a barcode sticker, and a prepaid return envelope. After following the instructions to collect a quick sample, all you need to do is seal up your swab and mail it back to the medical team at Nurx. That’s it! You’ll skip the hassle, the waiting, and the endless paperwork that comes with a regular trip to your doctor, and you’ll rest easy knowing you’re in the clear for HPV.

Whether you’re due for a pap smear in the next few months or simply want to know more about your options so you can make an educated decision on your personal health when the time comes, visit the Nurx website to learn more about their at-home HPV screening kits, as well as their birth control and emergency contraception options.
